Five carriages between your berth and the engine. Get up. Go forward.
You wake at a quarter to three on the night express — no steward, no stops, the whole train tearing through the dark — and the only way to learn why is forward, one carriage at a time, all the way to the engine.
Situation
You went to sleep on the night express and something woke you at a quarter to three: the train swung through a lit station without slowing. You ring for the steward. Nobody comes. The corridor is empty, the lamps are swaying, and the whole train is running hard through the dark.
Method
Whatever is going on tonight, the answer is forward — carriage by carriage, toward the engine. Each car was left the way somebody left it, and each one holds a piece of the night. Look around, open things, take what looks useful, and find where it fits.
Note
Everything you need is in the carriage you're standing in. No timetables to memorise, no railway knowledge — just look closely and think. The train will tell you what happened.
