The bank died years ago. He kept coming to work. Five rooms to find out why.

The bank died years ago. He kept coming to work. Five rooms to find out why.

Situation

A city bank wound up years ago. Inventoried, emptied, signed for — everything by the book, except one line the liquidators never explained: the last clerk kept coming to work after the bank was dead. For weeks he let himself in, alone, and worked the rooms. The file calls it an irregularity and closes the matter.

Method

You hold that file. It lists what he left behind — wiring no one ordered, keys that should not exist, a weight that does not weigh true, money posted out of a branch that was already dead. Walk the five rooms he worked, in his footsteps, and turn each irregularity into a fact. The rooms will do the talking.

Note

No bank knowledge and nothing to know coming in — count, compare, and look at what he actually did. One more thing: the file has already decided what kind of man he was. Files are wrong sometimes.
