Play Together

A game for two, wherever you are

You're in one place, they're in another. You each open the game on your own device, see different clues and talk each other through it.

Playing apart is built in

Most games you play long-distance are workarounds: one person shares a screen, the other watches and points.

Here, each player already needs their own screen. You're in different rooms of the same game, so being in different cities changes nothing. The only thing the game needs from you is that you keep talking.

How playing apart actually works

  1. One of you starts

Open The Heist and tap Start. Your side of the game is ready.

  2. Send the link

WhatsApp, a text, an email. It works for a week.

  3. They join from anywhere

Another city, another country, any phone, tablet or laptop.

  4. You're in the same game

Two rooms, one door. What you do on your side changes theirs.

  5. Talk your way out

Get on a call and keep going until you're both out.

Two places, one game

London and New York, or two apartments across town. The same game, on two screens, wherever the screens are.

A museum hall and its security room, either side of one steel door
Player 1 · London
Player 2 · New York

Why it works apart

  • You never stop talking

Each of you can see what the other needs, so the call is the game, not background noise.

  • You both bring something

Neither of you is a spectator. Half the answers are on each side.

  • No screen sharing

Each of you plays on your own screen. Nobody has to watch anyone else's.

  • No setup

No install, no account, no game console. A link and a browser.

Who plays it long-distance

Long-distance couples play it. So do friends who moved to other cities, siblings, kids away at college, parents abroad, and anyone stuck in a hotel room on a work trip.

The Heist

A small museum, two in the morning, and a necklace you came to take. One of you keeps watch out in the hall. The other is inside the security room, with the cameras and the lasers. Each of you can see what the other one needs — and the door only lets go when you both finish.

Questions

Do we need to be in the same country?
No. Each of you opens the game on your own device, wherever you are. The game doesn't care how far apart you are.
Do we need Zoom or Discord?
You need some way to talk, and a voice call is enough. Use whatever you normally use: a phone call, FaceTime, WhatsApp, Zoom or Discord. There's no chat inside the game.
Do we need to share our screens?
No. Each of you plays on your own screen, and each screen shows a different room.
Can one of us use a phone and the other a computer?
Yes. Any mix of phones, tablets and laptops works.
Does a slow connection matter?
Not much. The game only sends small updates when something changes. No video, no streaming. An ordinary home or mobile connection is fine.
How do I invite the other player?
Start the game and you'll get a link. Send it however you like. They open it in their browser and join your game, no account needed.
Can we stop and come back later?
Yes. The link works for a week. Open it again on the same device and you're back in your room, right where you left off.
